Glendora, CA — The Citrus College Men's Water Polo program opened up their 2014 home schedule on Wednesday evening when they played host to NCAA DIII University of La Verne. The Owls caged the visiting Leopards defeating them 14-8.

Citrus got off to a good start taking a 3-1 lead over La Verne in the first period. The Leopards would trade goals with the Owls in the second, as Citrus led 6-4 headed into the break. In the third, Citrus began to pull away, outscoring La Verne 5-2 and going up 11-5. Citrus put the game away for good in the fourth with three more goals to the Leopards' two, to reach their six point margin of victory.

In the win, the Owls were led by sophomore Charles Ortega and freshmen Mark Cordts and Jonathon Lotero. All three players scored three goals a piece, while Ortega added a trio of assists and Cordts and Lotero two assists each Ortega also led the Owls' defensive effort with four steals, while freshman goalie Drake Santos stopped 15 shots.

With the win, Citrus improves to 2-1 on the year. The Owls will be back in the water at home on Friday when they kick-off their home hosted tournament against San Diego Miramar College at 9:45 AM.
