Fullerton, CA -- The Citrus College Men's Water Polo team went on the road on Saturday afternoon and made a statement. The Owls staked their claim as one of the top teams in Southern California with a 15-13 win over Pacific Coast Conference leading Grossmont College and an 11-7 win over the day's host Fullerton College, taking the rubber match between the two schools.

The Owls opened up the day with that victory over the Griffins. Citrus and Grossmont traded goals in the first quarter, with the Owls taking a 5-4 lead after the first eight minutes. Each team scored three goals in the second as Citrus' lead remained one, 8-7 at halftime. In the third, Citrus pulled away though, going up 14-8, before emptying the bench in the fourth and hanging on to the two point win. Freshman Mark Cordts scored four goals in the win, while sophomore Seth Adams chipped in with six assists off the bench. Freshman goalie Drake Santos was strong in the victory, stopping 17 shots.

Shortly after the win against the Griffins, the Owls had to take on Fullerton. The Owls took just a 2-1 lead after the first quarter, but began to pull away in the second scoring four more goals, while limiting the Hornets to just one. The Owls more or less sealed it with a 2-1 third and by keeping pace with Fullerton in the fourth 3-4, en route to the four point victory. Freshmen William Martinez and Jonathon Lotero each scored three times, while Santos came up with 20 more blocks.

With the wins, Citrus improves to 18-5 overall. The Owls now have just two regular season contests left on their 2014 schedule, both conference contests, starting on Wednesday when they travel to Ventura College to take on the Pirates at 2:15 PM.
