Owls Wrap Up Undefeated Weekend at Mt. SAC Tourney

Walnut, CA -- The Citrus College Men's Water Polo team finished the 42nd Annual Mt. San Antonio College Men's Water Polo tournament with an unblemished record on Saturday afternoon. The Owls closed out the weekend with a 19-6 win over Southwestern College and a 15-9 victory over Palomar College.

The Owls came out of the gate quick in both contests. Against the Jaguars of Southwestern, the Owls outscored their opponents 8-1 in the first and took a 10-4 lead into the break. In the third, Citrus again blitzed the Jaguars early with 6-0 third, before closing them out 3-2 in the fourth for the 13 point victory.

Freshman James Adams paced the Owls in the opening contest with four goals. Sophomore Jonathan Lotero added four scores and drew a team high four ejections, while freshman Alec Baker added three assists and five steals.

In the second contest things played out similarly. The Owls outscored the Comets 5-2 in the first and 3-1 in the second for a 8-3 lead at the break. Palomar put up a fight in the final two quarters, but Citrus edged Palomar 7-6 over the final 16 minutes of game action to win by six.

Sophomore Robert Renteria pumped in three scores for the Owls to go along with a steal. Lotero scored four goals, while freshman Daniel Velasquez had two goals, three assists, and three steals.

With the two wins, Citrus improves to 9-2 on the season. The Owls have four more games on the docket this weekend when they head to the San Diego area for the South of the Border Invitational co-hosted by San Diego Mesa and San Diego Miramar Colleges. Citrus opens up the weekend against El Camino College Friday afternoon at 2:00 PM.
