San Diego, CA -- The Citrus College Men's Water Polo team headed South this weekend to take part in the 2015 South of the Border Invitational hosted by San Diego Mesa and San Diego Miramar Colleges. The Owls kept on cruising, running their win streak to eight and improving to 13-2 on the year with four straight victories.

The weekend started off on Friday against El Camino College. The Owls held the Warriors to  a single score in each of the four quarters, while scoring 7, 5, 5, and 4 goals on their way to a 21-4 victory. Freshman Daniel Renteria scored four goals, while freshman James Adams and sophomore Jonathan Lotero each had three.

Later in the afternoon, Citrus faced their stiffest test of the weekend in the day's host San Diego Mesa College. The Owls led by a single score 5-4 after the first quarter and just 8-7 at the break after each team scored a trio of goals in the second quarter. The Owls exploded for eight goals in the third, to finally pull away late, holding the Olympians to four in the third and five in the fourth, scoring six more goals in the last eight minutes of their 22-16 victory. Lotero and sophomore Mark Cordts, each scored six goals.

On Saturday, the Owls kept it going against Grossmont College using a 7-0 first to win 24-9 comfortably. The Owls got five more scores from Lotero and six from freshman Daniel Velazquez in the victory. Citrus would close the weekend out a few hours later with a 22-9 win over Chaffey College, as Velazquez led all scorers with 7 goals.

After the four wins, Citrus will finally make it's way into Western State Conference action on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to defending conference champ Los Angeles Valley College. The Owls will take on the Monarchs at 3:00 PM.
