Wong Named September State Athlete of the Month

Citrus College freshman Jonathan Wong became just the fourth Owl in Citrus Athletics program history to be named CCCSIA CCCAA State Athlete of the Month.

Glendora, CA - Citrus College freshman water polo player Jonathan Wong has been named the California Community College Sports Information Association California Community College Athletic Association Male Athlete of the Month, for the month of September. Wong is just the fourth Citrus College Student-Athlete to earn the award since it began back in the Fall of 2005.

Wong helped the Owls to 11 wins during the month, scoring 96 total goals, handing out 24 assists, drawing 35 exclusions, and recorded 20 steals. Wong ended the month as the CCCAA leader in goals scored and still does.

Against the then #1 ranked team in NCAA DIII, Whittier College, Wong scored eight goals, grabbed two steals, and drew six exclusions. A few weeks later, Wong again faced the #1 ranked NCAA DIII team in the country in Pomona-Pitzer, where he scored seven more goals. Against the NCAA's #14 ranked team across all divisions, California Baptist University, Wong, scored four goals, had an assist, and a steal. Wong hails from Covina, CA and prepped at Claremont High School.

Wong and the rest of the Owls will be on the road on Wednesday when they head to Cuesta College for a pivotal Western State Conference match-up with the Cougars. The game is set for a 3:30 PM start.
