Citrus Dominates Home Opener

Citrus College finally made its home debut with a 15-9 victory over Ventura College Wednesday night.

It marks the Owls' second win in a row, improving to 4-10 on the year. The Pirates drop to 0-9 with the loss.

Jullian Nichols led the Owls with six goals, three assists and three steals in the game. Logan Haberle and Gavin Tanner each added three goals, while Rolan Solis netted a pair of goals and Nathan Salcedo also scored. Haberle had six assists to help the Owls pick up the victory.

Solis got the Owls on the board less than a minute into the game to set the tone, drilling in a pass from Haberle. He added another off an Eric Ramirez pass and 30 seconds later, Nichols rattled in a goal. Haberle tacked on another to put Citrus up 4-0 quickly before the Pirates could capitalize.

Citrus kept rolling and upped its lead to 10-6 at halftime off goals from Nichols, Tanner, and Salcedo.

The scoring spree cooled briefly in the third, but Citrus capped the game with three goals in the fourth to seal the victory.

Matteo Velasquez made 10 saves in the cage for the Owls.

Citrus turns around to host a mini tournament on Thursday, taking on Santa Monica at 10:10 a.m. and Cuesta College at 2:50 p.m.
