Cypress, CA -- The Citrus College Softball team had a tall task on their hands on Saturday afternoon when they took on a pair of ranked teams in a triangular at Cypress College. The Owls took on the host and State third ranked Chargers in the opening game losing 9-1 in five innings, and then fell in a close one to SoCal #9 San Diego Mesa 5-3.

In the opening contest things looked like they were going to go well for the Owls as they scored in the top of the first inning on an RBI groundout from  freshman Kawehi Ephan. That would be the extent of Citrus' offense for the remainder of the contest though as they were held to two more hits and no runs the rest of the way.

Meanwhile Cypress used timely hitting and took advantage of some Owl errors to build up a strong lead. Citrus only trailed by two runs after three innings, but the Chargers exploded for six runs in the fourth to put the Owls away early.

In the second game, the Owls saw the Olympians go out to an early 2-0 lead. Citrus tied things up in the bottom of the third taking advantage of a pair of Mesa errors to knot the game up at two scores each. The game stay tied until the top of the sixth when Mesa used a three spot to go up 5-2. The Owls scored once more in the bottom of the inning thanks to an RBI single from sophomore Jessica Gonzalez, but that was it as they fell by two.

With the two losses, Citrus falls to 9-6 on the year. The Owls will try and snap their current three game slide on Monday when they take on another State ranked opponent at State #10 Santiago Canyon College.  First pitch is set for 2:00 PM.
