Glendora, CA - After a disastrous showing the previous day, the Citrus College Softball team had to turn around 24 hours later and host defending CCCAA State Champs and SoCal Pre-Season #1 SoCal Santiago Canyon College. Despite losing both games, the Owls proved they belonged losing 14-15 and 4-9.

The opening game was a war with each team trading blows back and forth. Santiago opened the scoring with three in the top of the first, while the Owls responded with six spot in the bottom half of the inning getting a grand slam from sophomore Jade Nua and an inside the park 2-RBI home run from sophomore Karissa Martinez. The Hawks would pull even in the second, and then back out in front in the third, and even added some insurance scores in the top of the fifth as they went up 9-6.

Citrus proved relentless though, as they scored twice in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a Hawks error, and then eventually retook the lead in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single from freshman Valerie Ortiz and a sacrifice fly to right field from freshman Jacquelyn Alvarado that made it 10-9. Unfortunately, Santaigo Canyon responded with six runs in the top of the seventh to surge back in front 15-10. The Owls made one last go of it scoring on RBIs from freshman Molly Montell, Ortiz, and Alvarado before their luck ran out in the 14-15 loss.

In the second game, Citrus drew first blood with an RBI triple to center from Ortiz to give the Owls a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Santiago would respond two in the third and two more in the fourth, but Citrus would tie the game up at 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth after back-to-back RBI singles from Alvarado and freshman Alyssa Roman, with Roman's driving in two. The Hawks showed why they come so highly touted late scoring three in the fifth and two more in the sixth to pull out in front for good.

With the two losses, Citrus drops to 3-3 on the year. The Owls will be off from action until Wednesday when they travel to Rio Hondo College for a 2:30 PM start with the Roadrunners.
