Glendora, CA - The Citrus College Softball team, ranked #10 in the State, picked up a quality win on Friday afternoon, 7-4 against visiting Pasadena City College. The Owls scored six of their seven runs in the first two innings, and then held on through a rough fifth where the Lancers scored all four of their runs, for the victory.

Citrus got off to a great start when sophomore Celine Spathias cleared the loaded bases with a 3-RBI double to right-center field. In the bottom of the second, freshman Seanna Jimenez would drive in freshman Vanessa Garcia to make it 4-0. A few pitches later Spathias drove the ball to the exact same spot on the field plating Jimenez and freshman Valerie Ortiz to make it 6-0.

In the top of the fifth, PCC started off with a pair of singles and then loaded up the bases after getting hit by a pitch, all with no outs. The first run for the Lancers would score on an error by the Owls. Pasadena would then go on to hit two straight RBI singles and then stole home to pull within two at 4-6. The Owls would finally get out of the jam on a fielder's choice groundout, stopping the scoring run by the Lancers.

The Owls would go down in order in the bottom half of the inning, while Pasadena threatened again in the top of the sixth putting two on with two out. Freshman Danielle Dominguez would rear back though and get a groundout to prevent any more scores.

In the bottom of the sixth, Citrus picked up some more breathing room with an RBI single back up the middle of the field by sophomore Jade Nua. In the top of the seventh, Dominguez would give up a two-out hit, but nothing else to close out the game.

Dominguez (10-3) would finish with the complete game win after giving up eight total hits, only one earned run, one walk, and tallying up five strikeouts. At the plate, Spathias would finish 2 for 3 with 5 RBIs, while Ortiz was 2 for 3 with two scores.

With the win, Citrus improves to 13-7 on the season. The Owls will be back in action on Friday when they travel to College of the Canyons to finish the halted game from earlier in the week and play the second game of their previously scheduled double-header. Game #1 is set to resume at 1:00 PM.
