Road Trip to Riverside Goes Extra Innings

Softball's road trip to Riverside City for a regional matchup on Thursday turned into a long one, when the game went extra innings. The Owls ended up on the downside of the scoreboard though, and dropped the hotly contested game to the Tigers, 5-6.

Citrus was down through 4 innings, trailing by as many as 5. But they turned things around in the 5th with a 3-run rally, followed by a run in the 6th and the tying run in the top of the 7th to make it 5-5. The run in the 7th came off a Cerina Martinez single up the middle that scored Becky Winder

The two teams would go scoreless for 3 full extra innings until the 11th when Riverside pieced together a series of plays that resulted in a walk off double to end the game.

Brooke Fuss found the business end of her bat in the game, going 2 for 4 with a double and 3 RBI's, all 3 of which came off the 5th inning double. Melanie Barba also went 2 for 4, driving in a run.

Citrus fell to 3-9 overall with the loss. The Owls turn around and host Orange Coast College on Friday at 12:00 PM.
