Softball Starts April in Winning Fashion

April started off with a bang for Citrus Softball. The Owls picked up two wins, one on Tuesday at Allan Hancock and the 2nd at LA Mission in a conference contest on Thursday. The wins put Citrus above the .500 mark for the 3rd time this season. 

In Tuesday's win over Allan Hancock, Citrus took the Bulldogs for a walk en route to an 8-1 mercy rule win, the 6th of the season for the Owls. Emily Paredez had a great day at the plate, going 3 for 4, featuring a double, 3 runs and an RBI. Giavanna Muenz went 3 for 4 and scored 2 runs. Megan Jones notched a pair of base hits, driving in a run and scoring twice. Catcher Brooke Fuss batted in 2 runs on a double.  

On Thursday at LA Mission, the Owls snuck out with a narrow 2-1 win, after the Eagles made it interesting in the bottom of the 7th. Going into the inning down 2-0, the home team put together a solid effort at a comeback, scoring a run and leaving the tying run on base. But the Owls rallied behind pitcher Becky Winder, who struck out all 3 batters in the 7th to secure the victory. Winder had 9 K's on the day and walked zero after facing 29 batters. 

Jones once again performed in the batter's box, going 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Paredez hit her 2nd double of the day and also scored a run. Katie Kempton shook off the rust after a small dry spell, going 2 for 2 with an RBI.  

The Owls improve to 16-15 overall and 6-4 in the WSC East. The team will take the field again Friday in a road game at El Camino.
