Owls Down Rustlers in Grand Fashion
Citrus College handed Golden West College its first loss of the season in grand fashion as Patty Rodriguez knocked a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth to give the Owls an 11-3 run-rule victory.
The Owls improve to 4-2 on the year, while the Rustlers drop to 7-1.
Once again, the Owls struck first after Desiree Loza came home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second.
Golden West responded with a run in the third, but Citrus took back its lead in the fourth. With two outs and one on, Alexis Cordero singled to center but the outfielder bobbled the ball to allow Loza to touch home once again.
Things got interesting in the fifth as GWC took the lead with two runs off two hits and an error.
Rodriguez (3-for-4, two runs, seven RBIs) put the Owls back in front with a three-run bomb to left field before things heated up in the sixth.
Cordero led the inning off with a home run inside the park down the left field line, followed by Marissa Gallegos knocking a solo shot to right field.
The Owls then loaded the bases before Rodriguez turned on her second home run of the game, making it a game-ending grand slam with four runs to put the run rule in play, 11-3.
Samantha Meyndert picked up her third win of the year, striking out two batters and allowing just one earned run in the circle.
Citrus has another busy week next week, playing four games in four days, including opening Western State Conference-South action on Tuesday at LA Valley College.
