Citrus College got its bats hot in a 9-1, five-inning run-rule victory over San Bernardino Valley College Friday afternoon.

The Owls improve to 8-4 on the year with the win, while the Wolverines slip to 2-6 overall.

As a team, Citrus had 12 hits in the game, including a stellar 3-for-3 performance from Madelyn Hajj – with all three coming as doubles. Leah Morales (1-for-3), Desiree Loza (2-for-3), Marissa Ramirez (2-for-2), Jasani Zavalza (2-for-3), Nicole Moore (1-for-2), and Kylie Ruiz (1-for-2) also had hits in the game.

Serena Rodriguez picked up her first collegiate win with five innings pitched, allowing just one unearned run.

The Owls broke through in the bottom of the third with five runs on seven hits and a Wolverine error. With two runners on, Hajj doubled over the centerfielder's head to score Morales from third before Praytor came home on an RBI single from Loza. Hajj then came home on a hard-to-handle single from Ramirez, while Adri Bonilla scored on a Moore single to right. Ruiz capped the scoring with an RBI infield single to put the Owls up 6-1.

Needing just three runs to put the run rule in play, Citrus got just that in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs and a runner on, Loza blasted a single through the left side to plate one run before Zavalza doubled down the right-field line to send Ramirez and Loza home and put the Owls up by eight runs.

SBVC managed to get a runner on base in the top of the fifth, but the Owls secured the mercy win with a flyout to center.

Citrus looks to keep building momentum as it hosts Saddleback College on Monday at 2:30 p.m.
