No. 19-ranked Citrus College grabbed its second-straight run-rule victory Tuesday afternoon, downing LA Valley College 9-1 in five innings.

The Owls improve to 13-5 overall and 1-0 in the Western State Conference with the win, while the Monarchs drop to 1-13 on the year, 0-1 in conference.

Citrus wasted no time to get on the board with two runs in the first and another three to jump out to a 5-0 lead. Gwendalyn Rivas got things going with a leadoff triple and came home on a sacrifice fly.

LA Valley managed to break through in the fourth, but Citrus responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to threaten the mercy rule before Paige Horvat drilled a base hit down the left-field line to score two runners and hand the Owls the 9-1 run-rule victory.

Caitlin Kelley picked up with win with three strikeouts in three innings, while Serena Rodriguez also tossed three strikeouts.

The Owls look to keep hot and carry momentum into Thursday's conference contest at Bakersfield College, with first pitch set for 2:30 p.m.
