Owls Drop Two at Moorpark

Owls Drop Two at Moorpark

Citrus College traveled to Moorpark College Saturday afternoon and dropped a pair of games. The Owls battled but struggled to score runs as the Raiders won 2-1, and 5-1. The Owls slip to 19-11 overall, while the Raiders improve to 22-6 overall.

Things got off to a good start for the Owls as they claimed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning off a Paige Horvat RBI single that scored Leah Morales. The Raiders would tie the game in the second inning off a home run, and the game would remain tied until Raiders scored again in the sixth inning.

A single run would be the difference as the Owls struggled to string together hits and left five runners on base. They would finish with five hits from four different batters with Caitlin Kelley and Paige Horvat leading the way. Kelley went (2-for-3) from the plate and Horvat went (1-for-3) with an RBI. Leah Morales and Kylie Ruiz would both add a hit.

In the second game Citrus would again score first taking a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, sloppy play would allow Moorpark to tie the game as the Owls committed three errors in the bottom of the first inning and gave up an unearned run. Two more costly errors in the second inning would allow the Raiders to score three more unearned runs and take a 4-1 lead after two innings of play.

Citrus was unable to recover after that as their offense was essentially shut down by Moorpark. The Owls would only have four total hits in the game from four different batters and be unable to score after the first inning.

The Owls will be back in action on Tuesday as they host Bakersfield College in a Western State South conference matchup. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
