Sophomores Shine in Run-Rule Win
Citrus College celebrated its sophomores Friday afternoon with a dominating 15-2 run-rule victory over Taft College. The Owls improve to 21-12 overall, while the Cougars fall to 2-23 overall. 
 
The Owls had fifteen hits from ten different batters. Desiree Loza had a stellar game (2-for-3) at the plate, hit a home run, scored three runs, and had 5 RBIs. Mariah Ruiz went (2-for-3) at the plate, hit a home run, had 2 RBIs, and scored three runs. Samantha Meyndert and Serena Rodriguez were in the circle for the Owls. Meyndert picked up her eighth win of the year and Rodriguez pitched 2 innings, giving up one hit and striking out two batters.
 
The Wildcats took an early lead off a two-run home run, making the game 2-0. The Owls wasted no time in responding as Samantha Meyndert hit a double before Mariah Ruiz hit a two-run home run, tying the game at 2-2. Desiree Loza added another run due to errors later in the inning from the Wildcats, giving the Owls a 3-2 lead.
 
The Owls continued their hot hitting over the next two innings, scoring four runs in the second and eight runs in the third, giving them a 15-2 lead and putting the game out of reach.
 
Citrus will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Antelope Valley College for a Western State Conference game. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
