Owls Stage Comeback

Citrus College had a big three-run seventh inning to propel them to victory over College of the Canyons Tuesday afternoon. The Owls improved to 25-14 overall and 7-5 in conference, while the Cougars fell to 16-23 overall and 6-6 in conference. 

The Owls finished with twelve hits from seven different batters. Marissa Ramirez was the Owl's top performer, going 3-for-3 from the plate with an RBI and scored a run. Madelyn Hajj and Desiree Loza went 2-for-3 from the plate with an RBI and scored a run. Leah Morales went 2-for-4 from the plate with an RBI, scored two runs, and had four stolen bases.
 
The Owls got on the board early in the first inning as Leah Morales reached first base on an error and advanced to second base. Morales would later steal third before Paige Horvat singled, giving the Owls a 1-0 lead. A batter later, Desiree Loza would hit a single, advancing Horvat into scoring position for Marissa Ramirez. Ramirez would single to right field, scoring Horvat and giving the Owls a 2-0 lead.
 
The Cougars took the lead after a two-run second inning and a three-run third inning, making the game 5-2.
 
Owls batters would again get things going in the fifth as Leah Morales hit a leadoff single and eventually stole second base. Rylee Praytor would advance Morales to third before Madelyn Hajj hit a single, scoring Morales. Horvat would come to the plate and get some help from the Cougars as she reached on an error, advancing Hajj all the way to third base. Desiree Loza would lay down a successful sacrifice bunt, scoring Hajj and advancing the pinch runner Gwendalyn Rivas into scoring position. A wild pitch would advance her to third before a passed ball would score Rivas, tying the game 5-5.
 
The Cougars added another run in the sixth, giving them a 6-5 lead going into the final inning of play.
 
In the seventh, the Owls began to string together hits again as Desiree Loza hit a leadoff single. Loza would advance to second on a wild pitch before Marissa Ramirez singled for her third hit of the day, advancing Loza to third base. Jasani Zavalza would add to the Owls' hit total with a single, scoring Loza and advancing Ramirez to second. Caitlin Kelley would make it four hits in a row to start the inning, loading the bases for the Owls. With one out and the bases loaded, Leah Morales would get her second hit of the day and single to left field, scoring Ramirez. Rylee Praytor a batter later would hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Zavalza and giving the Owls an 8-6 lead and the momentum.
 
Caitlin Kelley would finish things off for the Owls, pitching a complete game and picking up her fourteenth win of the year.
 

The Owls completed their regular season with the win and now await playoff seeding to see what is next.
