Owls Open Season with Three-Game Weekend

Citrus College Softball opened their season with three games, a doubleheader on Friday January 24th, and a game at Long Beach City College yesterday, January 25th. 

The Owls opened the 2025 season with a thrilling 5-4 win over Southwestern College, their first of two games scheduled on Friday. Madelyn Hajj launched a 3-run homerun driving in Rylee Praytor and Sofia Femath to put the Owls up 3-0 in the bottom of the 1st inning. Aalijah Aranda hit a ground rule double, scoring Ava Camarena in the bottom of the 6th inning before the Jaguars tied the game 4-4 in the top of the 7th inning. With the game tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the 7th inning, Rylee Praytor stepped up to the plate to deliver a walk-off single up the middle, scoring Alivia Martinez from third base to give the Owls a 5-4 win. 

Madelyn Hajj went (1-for-3) with one run scored and three RBI's, Rylee Praytor went (1-for-3) with one run scored and one RBI. Aalijah Aranda went (1-for-1) with one RBI. 

Citrus College started their season 1-0 while Southwestern College went to 0-1 to open their season. 

Game two of the Owls' doubleheader on Friday was played under the lights as Citrus College could not contain No.9 ranked El Camino College, suffering a 10-0 loss. The Owls kept it close with the Warriors until a 3-run 5th inning and a 6-run 7th inning put the game out of reach. 

Citrus College moved to 1-1 overall on the season while El Camino started their season 2-0, as they defeated Southwestern College earlier in the day. 

The Owls traveled to Long Beach City College this past Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Vikings, losing 7-6. The Owls struck first when Madelyn Hajj hit a double that scored Alivia Camarena and Harmony Torres to go up 2-0. In the top of the 5th inning the Owls put up three runs after Alivia Camarena, Madelyn Hajj and Rylee Praytor all recorded an RBI to give the Owls a 5-0 lead. The Vikings put up a 7-run 7th inning to get the comeback win. 

Citrus College goes to 1-2 overall on the season while Long Beach City College moves to 1-1 overall on the year. 

The Owls will travel to San Bernardino Valley College on Wednesday, January 29th for a 1 p.m. game against the Wolverines.
