Citrus College Softball split yesterday's doubleheader with San Diego Mesa College, Citrus won game 1 by a score of 4-3 and SD Mesa won game 2 with the score being 8-7.
Citrus College goes to 6-12 overall on the season, while San Diego Mesa College goes to 11-11 overall on the season.
In game 1 of the day, the Owls and Olympians were tied at 0-0 through four innings before SD Mesa went up 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the top of the sixth inning Jaelynn Eaves crushed her second home run of the season, a grand slam that scored Harmony Torres, Ava Camarena and Madelyn Hajj to give the Owls a 4-1 lead. San Diego Mesa was able to add two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Owls held on to win 4-3.
Caitlin Kelley pitched seven innings, striking out five batters and allowing only three runs. Jaelynn Eaves led the Owls going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Alivia Martinez and Ava Camarena each stole a base in the game.
Citrus College started game 2 with a three-run homerun from Madelyn Hajj in the top of the first inning to put the Owls up 3-0. The Olympians scored three runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game 3-3. The Owls scored two runs in the top of the third inning, one off a wild pitch that advanced Ava Camarena, the other run was off an RBI triple from Jaelynn Eaves to give the Owls a 5-3 lead.
A Sofia Femath RBI single to score Bailey Aguilar gave the Owls a 6-4 lead before Ava Camarena was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Aalijah Aranda to put the Owls up 7-4 in the top of the sixth inning. SD Mesa scored one run in the bottom of the sixth inning and added three in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the walk-off win in game 2.
Madelyn Hajj went 1-for-2 with a home run, two runs scored, three RBIs and two walks. Sofia Femath went 2-for-3 with one RBI, while Ava Camarena went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and one stolen base.
Citrus College will look to keep their positive momentum going as they have won four of their last six games when they host Glendale College on Tuesday, March 11th at 2:30 p.m.
