Owls Shutout No. 9 Ranked Vikings

The Citrus College Owls secured an impressive 3-0 shutout victory over No. 9-ranked Long Beach City College 

With the win, Citrus improves to 14-13 overall and 5-1 in conference play, while Long Beach goes to 22-4 overall and 15-2 in conference. 

The Owls struck early in the bottom of the first inning. Jaelynn Eaves got things rolling with an RBI double to bring home Alivia Martinez, marking her 21st RBI of the season — the 12th most in conference. Rylee Praytor followed up with an RBI single to right-center, scoring Eaves and giving Citrus a quick 2-0 lead. 

Citrus added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when Praytor came through again with an RBI double to score Martinez, extending the lead to 3-0. 

Owls' Standouts vs. Long Beach City College 

  • Alivia Martinez contributed at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a run scored, and made a clutch defensive play with a diving catch in the top of the seventh to rob the Vikings of a hit. 

On the mound, Caitlin Kelley was dominant. She tossed a complete game, allowing just four hits over seven innings while striking out two batters and keeping the Vikings' offense in check from start to finish. 

Citrus College will host Allan Hancock College tomorrow, Friday, March 28th for a non-conference game at 2 p.m.
