Owls Win Big in First Round Matchup

Moorpark, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Basketball team opened up the 2012 Moorpark Tournament with a big win over Gavilan College. The Owls held their opponent to a season low amount of points in a 79-27 victory.

Citrus' defense keyed the victory on Friday evening, as the Owls held Gavilan to just 12 first half points. Citrus  went up big early taking a 16-1 lead midway through the first and then held a 31-3 advantage with three minutes to go. At the break Citrus was up 35-12.

The second half was much of the same. Citrus led 49-23 at the 10 minute mark of the second half. Over the final ten minutes of the contest, the Owls outscored Gavilan 30 to 4, as Citrus won by their largest margin of the year 52. 

In the win, sophomore Ella Rodriguez scored a team high 15 points and grabbed a team high five rebounds. Sophomore Nicole Zugasti added 13 points, to go along with four rebounds, three steals, and three assists. Freshman Natalie Lam also added 13, while freshmen Jaelyn Wilson and Olivia Montgomery each added 10.
With the win, Citrus improves to 6-1 on the year. The Owls will be back out on the floor Saturday night at 6:00 PM when they take on the tournament's host Moorpark College.
