Fast Breaked to Death

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Basketball team gave it a great effort on Wednesday night, but in the end it wasn't enough as they were fast breaked to death. The Owls were outgunned in fast break points 16-6, which proved to be the difference in a 59-67 loss to College of the Canyons.

Citrus started strong on Wednesday, breaking out of a 13-13 tie, by going on a 12-4 run, a stretch in which sophomore Sarah Rebibo scored nine of the Owls' 12 points and put them up 25-17 after a three from freshman Natalie Lam. Unfortunately for Citrus, Canyons had an answering run, scoring nine of the final 11 points to go into halftime up 28-27.

Canyons continued to build on their momentum in the second half, pushing their lead to nine points with just over 13 minutes to go. The Owls battled all the way back, getting to within a point 42-41 after a pair of free throws from freshman Jaelyn Wilson.

Canyons pulled back away going up by seven with just five minutes to go, but the Owls pulled back to within one after a pair of free throws from sophomore Nicole Zugasti with 2:52 to go. Citrus wouldn't get any closer though, as Canyons hit 12 of their final 14 free throws icing the victory.

In the loss, Citrus was led by Rebibo who scored 21 points. Lam added 15 and Wilson 12. Zugasti meanwhile pulled down 17 rebounds, 12 of which came in the first half, which is the second best individual rebounding night in program history, two shy of the program record.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 14-10 overall and 3-5 in WSC South play. The Owls get another tough test on Saturday when they take on first place LA Valley College at 5:00 PM.
