Keeping That Hope Alive

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Basketball team kept a slight glimmer of hope alive on Saturday evening with a much needed win. The Owls played host to Bakersfield College and downed the visiting Renegades 66-52.

Citrus led wire to wire Saturday night, scoring the first six points of the game and never looking back. The Owls would keep Bakersfield at arms length for the majority of the first half, with Citrus holding on to a six point lead at the break 39-33.

The second half was much of the same. The Owls scored the first four points to push their lead to 10 points, with Bakersfield scoring the next basket to cut it to eight. It didn't get any closer than that for the remainder of the contest though, as the Renegades were never really able to make a game of it.

Sophomore Nicole Zugasti paced the Owls' effort with a game high 19 points and game high 15 rebounds. Freshman Jaelyn Wilson tacked on 14 points to go along with a pair of blocks and three steals. Freshman Natalie Lam rounded out the superlatives with 12 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists.

With the win, Citrus improves to 15-11 on the year and 4-6 in WSC South play. The Owls will need to win their final two games and get some help over the next week in order to qualify for the post-season, but it is still a possibility. Citrus' first step takes place on Wednesday when they travel to Culver City to take on West Los Angeles College at 7:00 PM.
