Glendora, CA -- Citrus College Sophomore Ella Rodriguez completed the 2012-2013 matriculating sophomore class early last week when she signed a scholarship offer with Talladega College in Alabama. Rodriguez was the fourth and final sophomore from Citrus' 12-13 squad to accept a scholarship offer.

"Talladega is a solid program that will provide me with a chance to continue to pursue my major," Rodriguez said. "They're coming off a great season, and I'm looking forward to being a part of more the next couple of years."

Rodriguez appeared in 14 games for the Owls, before succumbing to a season ending knee injury midway through the year. Rodriguez was leading the team in both points (13.6) an rebounds (9.2) per game, having amassed five doubles-doubles in just those 14 games. Rodriguez will take the 2013-14 season off from competition to continue her rehab, and will join the Tornadoes for the 2014-15 season.

"Citrus has helped me become a better person. The women's basketball program has shown me the true meaning of teamwork," Rodriguez said. "This last year was a trying year, and Citrus' has helped me cope with it. It's made me stronger physically and mentally."

"I am very excited for Ella and her opportunity to join such a prestigious program. Talladega is a very competitive program and I know Ella can help them stay on top of the NAIA rankings. Coach [Romero] Lagmay is a phenomenal person and knowledgeable coach," Citrus College Head Women's Basketball Coach Tamara McDonald said. "It was unfortunate Ella was injured at the conclusion of the pre-conference schedule, because she would have concluded her sophomore season as one of the best guards in the state."
