Pasadena, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Basketball team had a tall task on their hands in their season opener on Thursday afternoon. The Owls took on State #6 Long Beach City College in the opening round of the 2013 Rose City Classic hosted by Pasadena City College and ultimately fell 52-65.

The Owls stumbled out of the gate as Long Beach took an early lead and extended it to a 14 point advantage at the break. Citrus showed signs of life early in the second half though, scoring 19 of the first 29 points, to cut the Viking lead to five. Citrus continued to battle getting it down to two under the 10 minute mark, but an 8-0 run by Long Beach with just over six minutes to play ultimately sealed Citrus' fate in their 13 point loss.

In the loss, Citrus was led by sophomore Jasmin Longtin who opened up her season with a double-double 11 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Jaelyn Wilson had a team high 13 points, but was saddled with foul trouble, fouling out with just over seven minutes to go in the contest. Sophomore point guard Taylor Jackson rounded out the superlatives with eight assists.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 0-1 on the year. The Owls will get much down time as they head back out to Pasadena tomorrow for a 2:00 PM tip with College of the Canyons. The Cougars were ranked #15 in the State Pre-Season Coaches Poll.
