El Cajon, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Basketball team wrapped up their first tournament title under Head Coach Tamara McDonald on Monday evening with a 56-41 win in the Championship Game of the 26th Annual Holiday Tournament hosted by Grossmont College.

Winners of six of their last seven contests, the Owls scored first on Monday evening and had and early 6-2 lead after a jumper from Jasmin Longtin, but 10 minutes in it was Bakersfield College who was on top.

The Renegades lead wouldn't last long as Citrus countered with a 8-2 run that saw four free-throws between freshman Jessica Samson and sophomore Jaelyn Wilson and pair of buckets split by Wilson and Longtin that made it 14-12 Citrus with just over eight minutes left in the first half.

Citrus would never trail the rest of the way. At the half, Citrus held a healthy 23-17 lead, an advantage they quickly pushed to double digits at the outset of the second half. The Owls would open up the final 20 minutes of competition on a 13-1 run and didn't give up a Renegade field goal until their was 10:19 left in the game.

In the win, Citrus was led by Wilson's 17 points and 13 rebounds, both game highs. Sophomore Natalie Lam added 10 as did sophomore Natalie Jackson. Lam was named the tournaments MVP, while Wilson was an All-Tournament selection.

With the win, Citrus improves to 9-5 on the year. The Owls will take a brief break from action, returning to the hardwood when Western State Conference South Division play begins on Wednesday January 8th in The Owl's Nest at 5:00 PM.
