Battle Tested

Glendale, CA — The Citrus College Women's Basketball team proved what a battle tested squad they were on Saturday afternoon at Glendale College. The Owls trailed by as much as nine points in the second half, but remained calm and persevered in the end, grabbing a 71-63 win over the host Vaqueros.

The two teams played even throughout the first half, trading the lead six times and tying each other up four times, including at 30 all, which is where the score stood at the break. In the second half, Glendale grabbed their fourth lead of the night with the first three baskets of the second period, eventually building up a nine point lead with 14:41 to go. That's when the Owls finally picked up some steam.

Sophomore Jaelyn Wilson hit a jumper, followed by five straight free-throws from sophomore Taylor Jackson. Jackson would hit a jumper of her own, while sophomore Natalie Lam got in on the act with a basket, followed by a pair of free-throws from Wilson. Before the Vaqueros knew it, the Owls had turned a nine point deficit into four point lead and the game never swung back in there favor.

Glendale would keep it close all the way to the buzzer, getting it down to three in the final minute. The Owls were strong at the stripe though, hitting five of their final six attempts to secure the eight point win.

In the win, Citrus was led by Jackson who scored a game high 27 points. Wilson added 22, with Lam being the last in double digits with 10. With the win, Citrus improves to 12-5 on the year and 2-0 in WSC South play, and will travel to Bakersfield College for a 5:00 PM tip-off on Wednesday.
