Glendora, CA -- Down a pair of starters, the Citrus College Women's Basketball team had an uphill battle when it faced State #8 and SoCal #5 Los Angeles Valley College on Wednesday night. In the end, the Monarchs proved too much for the Owls, as Citrus fell 60-80.

The Owls came out of the gate strong on Wednesday, holding onto the lead for nearly six minutes to start the contest. Citrus looked impressive in that first five and half plus minutes, but ultimately LA Valley wore the Owls down. After leading 12-8 with 14:43 to go in the first half, Citrus quickly saw their four point lead evaporate into a nine point advantage for the Monarchs after a 13-0 run by Valley. From that point forward, Valley would build up their lead, and went into the break up 17.

In the second half, Citrus was more competitive, but the 17 point deficit was too much to overcome. The Owls never got the Valley lead down past double digits as they fell by 20. In the loss, Citrus was paced by sophomore Taylor Jackson, who scored a game high 20 points. Fellow sophomore Jaelyn Wilson added 18 points and a team high 12 boards.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 11-8 overall and 2-3 in WSC South play. The Owls will be back out on the road on Saturday when they take on West Los Angeles College for a 3:00 PM match-up.
