Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Basketball team got off to a bad start on Wednesday evening in their WSC South meeting with Glendale College at Citrus. Unfortunately for the Owls, the finish was worse as they fell to the Vaqueros 49-55.

As previously mentioned, the Owls got off to a rough start on Wednesday, as they didn't score their first field goal until 14:23 left in the first half. Citrus started off 0 for 9 from the field and 1 for its first 15. Still, the Owls somehow managed to  grab the lead just before the end of the half for the first time since sophomore Olivia Montgomery scored the game's first two points on a pair of free-throws in the first two minutes of the contest.

With 3:43 to go in the first half, it was sophomore Taylor Jackson who gave the Owls the lead with a lay-up that made it 18-16. The Owls would stay in the lead all the way into the break, where they led 24-22 over the Vaqueros. All of that despite shooting a miserable 17.6% from the floor.

In the second half, Citrus shot it better, but not by much. The Owls would cling to their lead until Glendale took it back for good with 10:08 left in the game. Citrus would pull to within four points twice late in the game, the first at 5:25 after two more free-throws from Montgomery, and then again with 2:31 to go after a jumper at the top of the key by freshman Jessica Samson. The Owls never got any closer than that though as Glendale had an answer for Citrus each time out.

In the loss, Citrus was led by sophomore Jaelyn Wilson who scored a game high 17 points and grabbed a game high 12 rebounds, that included five offensive boards. Montgomery added 10 points, while Samson chipped in with seven points off the bench and a season high 10 rebounds.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 13-9 overall and 4-4 in WSC South play. Citrus will be back home on Saturday when they host Bakersfield College at 3:00 PM.
