Pasadena, CA -- At first glance, the Citrus College Women's Basketball 1-2 weekend at the annual Pasadena City College Tournament may not be all that exciting. The Owls showed some spark though despite not being quite yet at full strength, and it looks like there will be plenty of room to grow as the season moves along.

The Owls opened up their season against El Camino College, who many believe to be one of the top teams in the South. Citrus fell into an early hole against the Warriors, and never worked their way back into the game in a 72-38 loss. Freshman Alexandria Cano had a strong debut, coming off the bench and scoring a team high 10 points.

On Saturday, the Owls drew Taft College and began to turn things around. The Owls and Wildcats were close at the half, with Citrus leading just 20-19. In the second half though, Citrus blew out Taft outscoring the Wildcats by 12 en route to the 56-43 win. Freshman Janae Chamois had a big coming out party in the victory, scoring a game high 23 points, while Cano added 13 points and nine boards.

Citrus closed things out, against a good Southwestern College squad. The Owls trailed by seven at the break, but were neck and neck with the Jaguars in the second half, before succumbing 57-65. Cano had arguably her best game of the weekend in the loss, dropping a game high 26 points, reeling in nine rebounds, and blocking a pair of shots.

The Owls will be on the road this Friday as they take on Grossmont College (1-3) in El Cajon.
