Moorpark, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Basketball team put together their best weekend of basketball this past week at the 2014 Moorpark College Classic. The Owls opened up with a win, before dropping a close contest in the semi-finals, and then rallying with a win in the third-place contest.

The weekend started off on Friday against Santa Ana College. The Owls built up a quick lead and never really looked back. At the break Citrus led 43-18, and despite a 13 point swing in the second half for the Dons, Citrus cruised comfortably to a 66-54 victory. Freshman Janae Chamois led all scorers with 22 points, and added eight assists for good measure. Sophomore Tyvette White added 12 points, while sophomore Vanessa Garcia chipped in with 10.

In the semi-finals, Citrus took on West Hills College Lemoore. The Owls found themselves trailing by eight. Citrus would put forth a better effort in the second half, but it wasn't enough as they lost 46-57. Citrus shot just 25% from the floor on the game, as freshman Kayla Brady led the way with a team high 12 points.

With the loss, Citrus fell to the 3rd-Place Game where they faced the weekend's host, Moorpark College. The game was a defensive battle with both teams shooting below 35% from the floor for the game, and the Owls holding a one-point 20-19 lead at the half. The game would stay close throughout, with Citrus just eking out a one point victory, 40-39. Chamois would finish with a team high 15 points, while freshman Alexandria Cano added 13 points off the bench. Chamois would be named to the All-Tournament team.

With the two wins and the loss, Citrus' record moves to 5-5 on the season. The Owls will be back in action on Sunday December 28th, when they open up the 27th Annual Grossmont College Holiday Tournament against Cypress College at 1:00 PM.
