El Cajon, CA — After upsetting SoCal #5 Cypress College in the opening round of the 27th Annual Grossmont College Holiday Tournament the Citrus College Women's Basketball team suffered a disappointing overtime setback to Cuesta College in the semi-finals. The Owls rallied the very next day and waxed the tournaments host to finish third in the tournament.

In the semi-finals, Citrus started off well enough, building up a 47-34 lead at the break, thanks in large part to 48.5% shooting from the floor and an even more impressive 61.5% shooting from beyond the 3-point arc. That shooting barrage slowed in the second half though, as they shot just 33.3% from the floor and 16.7% from three, as they watched the Cougars roar back and tie it up, sending the game to an extra five minutes. In the overtime period, Cuesta doubled up Citrus' scoring as they Owls fell 86-80.

Freshman Janae Chamois had a team high 25 in the loss, while sophomore Vanessa Garcia added 15. Freshman Alexandria Cano chipped in with 12 off the bench, while sophomore Bobbie Johnson notched her second straight double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

On Tuesday, Citrus rallied in a big way. The Owls took on Grossmont in the 3rd Place Game, and opened the game on an 8-0 run and never looked back. Citrus went into the break leading 32-19, and went on to outscore the Griffins 38-13 in the second half for a convincing 70-32 victory. Chamois scored a game high 20 points in the victory, handing out a game high five assists. Sophomore Tyvette White added 14, and freshman Tiffany Villaruz had 12. Garcia would be named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts throughout the weekend.

With the win and the loss, Citrus moved to 7-6 as they closed out the non-conference portion of their 2014-2015 schedule. The Owls will open up Western State Conference play on Wednesday the 7th, when the Owls travel travel to Santa Monica College for a 7:00 PM tip.
