Santa Monica, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Basketball program got a tough draw when they opened up Western State Conference South Division play against Santa Monica College. The Owls gave it a good go, but floundered down the stretch falling to the Corsairs 67-59.

The two teams traded blows back and forth in the first half, with Santa Monica taking a two point 30-28 lead into the break. In the second half, Citrus came out fast, grabbing the lead early and leading by as much as eight points midway through. In the closing minutes, Citrus lost it's mojo and Santa Monica converted its attempts at the free-throw line running away with a game that was a lot closer than the 12 point final difference.

In the loss, Citrus was paced by freshman Janae Chamois' team high 17 points. Chamois also had three assists, and just one turnover. Sophomore Tyvette White, notched her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 boards.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 7-7 on the season and 0-1 in WSC South play. The Owls will have their conference and season home opener on Saturday when they host Glendale College (6-9, 1-0) at approximately 5:00 PM.
