Glendora, CA — Headed into halftime of Wednesday evening's contest with SoCal #14 Bakersfield College, the Citrus College Women's Basketball team had to feel pretty good about hanging with the one loss Renegades. The Owls trailed by just two and had held their own, before a second half surge by Bakersfield was too much for Citrus in a 49-62 loss

The two teams took turns with the lead as the game opened up. Bakersfield scored four of the first six points, but a jumper by sophomore Bobbie Johnson and a lay-in by freshman Janae Chamois gave Citrus an early 6-4 lead. The Renegades rallied with a 12-0 run to put the Owls in a 10 point hole, but Citrus had a lot of fight in it, using a 10-3 run to close out the first half and head into the locker room down 23-21.

Citrus kept it close for the first seven and half minutes. That's when Bakersfield turned on the jets. Up 32-30, Bakersfield used a 10-0 run to go back up by double-digits, never to look back. In the loss, Citrus was held to just 28.3% shooting from the floor, including a miserable 1 of 11 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Chamois finished with a team high 13 points in the loss. Freshman Gabriela Ixtepan contributed strong minutes off the bench, scoring eight points, grabbing four rebounds, and recording two steals.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 8-8 overall and 1-2 in WSC South play. The Owls will head out on the road for their next two contests, beginning with a showdown at Antelope Valley College (8-9, 1-2) on Saturday at 7:00 PM.
