Lancaster, CA — The Citrus College Women's Basketball program shot a perfectly respectable 52% from the floor in the opening half of play against host Antelope Valley College on Saturday evening. The only problem for the Owls was Antelope shot an equally if not more impressive 64% clip in that same frame as Citrus couldn't slow the Marauder attack in a 54-66 loss.

Citrus' lone lead of the night would come 37 seconds into the game when a jumper by freshman Janae Chamois made it 2-1 in favor of the Owls. After that, it was all Antelope Valley. Despite the hot shooting of the Marauders, Citrus didn't let Antelope Valley run away with things early on, trailing by just five with 11:37 left in the first half. That's when AVC rattled off 11 unanswered points to take a commanding 16 point lead. Citrus would whittle it down to 10 before the break getting baskets from Chamois, a three pointer from sophomore Vanessa Garcia and a jumper int he paint by freshman Alexandria Cano to go into halftime trailing 31-41.

In the second half, Citrus would pull to within six of the Antelope Valley lead. The small run by the Owls saw freshman Kayla Brady hit three of four free-throws, sophomore Bobbie Johnson hit one of two, and a jumper from Chamois to make it 39-45 with 12:43 to play. That would be as close as it would get though, as the Marauders six of the next eight points to extend their lead and never really be in danger the rest of the way.

In the loss, Citrus was paced by Chamois' game high 21 points. No one else reached double-figures in scoring and no one had more than four rebounds, as the Owls were out-rebounded 33-24 on the night.

With the loss, the Owls fall to 8-9 on the season and 1-3 in WSC South play. Citrus will try and right the ship on Wednesday when they travel to LA Valley College (8-11, 1-3) to take on the Monarchs at 7:00 PM.
