Women's Basketball Opens Up Season With Strong Win

Bakersfield, CA - When The 2015 preseason polls released early last week, the Citrus College women's basketball team found themselves in a three-way tie for #15 in Southern California. The Owls opened up the 2015–2016 campaign on Friday against one of those other two teams and looked strong in the process with a 86-73 victory over Riverside City College.

 The two teams were even from the jump. Citrus took an 18 to 17 lead after the first quarter, but Riverside led by as much as eight points halfway through the second. Citrus would eventually settle down and go into the break up 36-33. The Tigers would keep it close through the third and even outscored the Owls in the third quarter by one. Citrus put the game away though in the fourth with a 24–17 final quarter as the Owls went on to win by 13.

Sophomore Janae Chamois lead all Citrus scorers with 15 points. Sophomore Marisol Chavez-Delgado came off the bench to add 14, while Chamois and sophomore Allison Zalin each had a team high seven boards.

With the win, Citrus improves to an early 1-0. The Owls will be back out on the floor this Friday afternoon when they take on Victor Valley College at 5:00 PM in the opening round of the San Jacinto Lion's Club Lady Eagle Tip-Off Tournament at Mt. San Jacinto College.
