Glendora, CA - The Citrus College Women's Basketball team had another big test on Wednesday evening when they played host to West Los Angeles College, home to the State's leading scorer Zhane Carter. The Owls were able to keep her in check, holding her under her season average and keeping her to just 32% from the floor, all the while getting deep contributions from their bench who outscored the Wildcats 31-11 in a 88-71 victory.

West LA would come out of the gate hot, scoring seven of the first nine points. The Wildcats would cling to their early lead for almost the first eight minutes until a three pointer by freshman Joy Adlao knotted the game up at 18-18, the first tie of the game. Adlao's triple would spark a 12-0 run by the Owls to close out the half, that end when sophomore Tiffany Villaruz hit a buzzer beating just past half-court shot that made it 27-18 after the first quarter of competition.

The Owls kept it going in the second, opening the quarter with another Adlao bomb from downtown. West LA would do their best to keep the game within arm's reach, getting the Owl lead down to seven with 2:29 to go in the half. Adlao hit another three that jump started 9-2 run to close out the second quarter, and Citrus would go into the break leading 51-37.

Citrus would put together their biggest quarter in the third, outscoring the Wildcats by 14 to take a 28 point lead into the fourth 76-48. West LA refused to quit though, outscoring Citrus 21-5 over the first seven and a half minutes of the final frame to pull within striking distance at 12. Sophomore Natalie Gutierrez finally pulled the Owls out of the slump though with a jumper, sophomore Janae Chamois added one too, and freshman Marisol Chavez-Delgado put the game away with their sixth straight point off a lay-up to seal the win.

Chamois would tie Carter with a game high 21 points, but Chamois was much more efficient going 8 of 13 from the floor, 2 of 3 from beyond the 3-point arc, and 3-3 at the charity stripe. Chamois also added seven boards and four assists. Gutierrez would add 15 and tie Chavez-Delgado for the team lead in rebounds with nine. Villaruz chipped in with 10 off the bench, while Adlao and freshman Marisa Brown each had nine as subs.

With the win, Citrus improves to 12-8 overall and 5-2 in WSC South play. The Owls will hit the road on Saturday to take on Bakersfield College at 3:00 PM.
