Glendora, CA - The Citrus College Women's Basketball team, who moved up to #13 in the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association SoCal Poll this week, kept up appearances as one of the top teams in Southern California on Wednesday night by handing a solid Antelope Valley College team their second worst loss of the year in a 74-54 victory over the Marauders.

The first quarter would prove to be the closest of the four. Antelope Valley scored the game's first points, but the Owls rallied with the next five via jumpers from sophomore Allison Zalin and a three from sophomore Natalie Gutierrez. The Owls would hang on to that lead until the final 1:12 of the first quarter, when Antelope briefly took a 13-12 lead. The Owls responded with back to back three from freshman Joy Adlao sandwiched by a two from Antelope that put Citrus up 18-15 after one.

Adlao would keep the momentum going in favor of the Owls, opening up the second with another three. Antelope would answer with a three of their own and keep it close over the next few minutes until Citrus went on a 13-5 run to close out the quarter, with Zalin scoring 10 of those points to put the Owls up 35-27 at the half.

In the third quarter, Citrus continued to distance themselves from the Marauders outscoring Antelope 18-11. The Owls never let up in the fourth, with a five point buffer that put the final total at 20.

Zalin and Gutierrez would lead all scorers with 21 points each. Zalin added eight boards, while sophomore Janae Chamois pitched in with 14 points and a game high 11 rebounds. Sophomore Elsie Mejia added a game high seven assist to round out the superlatives.

With the win, Citrus improves to 14-8 overall and 7-2 in WSC South play. The Owls will be back home on Saturday when they host Santa Monica College at 3:00 PM.
