Cypress, CA - The Citrus College Women's Basketball team participated in the Lady Charger Classic hosted by Cypress College over the weekend. The Owls finished in 6th place, going 1-2, and finding plenty of positives to build off of as the season progresses.

The toughest game of the weekend was the Owls' first, when they took on undefeated East Los Angeles College which is currently ranked #2 in the State and #1 in SoCal. The Owls were able to keep it close in the first quarter, trailing by just one 18-19 at the end of one. That didn't last past that however as the Huskies held the Owls to 19 points in total of the final three quarters of play in a 37-95 loss to East Los Angeles. Sophomore Jessica Rosas led the Owls with 18 points, eight rebounds, and three assists in the loss.

In the elimination round, the Owls would rally from down eight at the end of the third quarter against a solid West Los Angeles College squad. Citrus was down 31-39, but exploded for 25 points in the final frame to overtake the Wildcats. The Owls would overtake West LA with 37 seconds to play when sophomore Marisa Brown converted a conventional three-point play that made it 54-52 after her free-throw. West LA would get one of two from the charity stripe on their next trip down the floor, but Brown helped ice the game with a pair of free-throws and just 16 seconds to play. Brown notched a double-double in the win, with 21 points and 11 boards. Rosas added nine points and a game high 14 rebounds.

In the Consolation Championship contest, Citrus fell to Santa Monica College 69-74. The game was tight throughout the entirety of the contest, as it was tied up nine times and featured 10 lead changes. The Owls would hold the largest lead of the game, seven points, and did so with just 35 seconds to go in the thirds quarter. Citrus just couldn't find a way to put the game on ice, and the Corsairs made them pay out scoring the Owls by 12 in the fourth quarter. Brown had another double-double in the victory with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Jasmine Meza added 18 points and five boards.

After the weekend, the Owls are 2-8 on the year. Citrus will return home this weekend when they host Chaffey College on Saturday for a 2:00 PM showdown.
