Three Out of Four Isn’t Good Enough Again for Owls

Lancaster, CA – For three out of pretty much every four quarters, the Citrus College Women's Basketball team has on average kept pace with their opponents. The same was true on Wednesday night when the Owls headed out to Antelope Valley College for a WSC East showdown. What's mostly been true throughout their 2016-2017 campaign also came to fruition when the Owls gave up a -9 second quarter in what was ultimately the turning point in a 54-41 loss to Marauders.

In the first quarter, Citrus kept pace with Antelope, nearly matching them blow for blow and headed into the second quarter trailing by just two points 9-11. At the start of the second, Citrus looked like they were on their way for another positive quarter, opening the stretch on an 8-2 run that saw the Owls to take 16-13 lead. Things fell apart shortly thereafter though as the Marauders closed out the half on an 18-4 run that gave them a 31-20 advantage at the break.

In the second half, Citrus never got their shortage down below nine points despite playing nearly even with Antelope Valley over the final 20 minutes of action. Sophomore Marissa Brown was once again the Owls' only double-digit scorer, leading the way with 12 points. Freshman Jasmine Williams had nine points, to go along with five rebounds.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 5-15 overall and 1-3 in WSC East play. The Owls will be back home on Saturday when they host Barstow College for a 5:00 PM game.
