Glendora, CA - Former Citrus College Head Women's Basketball Coach and psychology professor Dr. Kenneth Guttman passed away over the weekend after battling cancer after a year and a half. Guttman is survived by his wife Maria and their two daughters and their two spouses.

"The Citrus College Athletics Department was extremely saddened to hear about Coach Guttman's passing," said Dean of Kinesiology and Athletics Junior Domingo. "In his time on the Citrus bench, Coach Guttman had a profound impact on the lives of a number of student-athletes. In his capacity as a faculty member in the psychology department, he had the same effect on countless more Citrus College students. On behalf of the Citrus College Athletics Department we'd like to extend our condolences to Dr. Guttman's family."

Guttman served as the Head Coach of the Citrus College Women's Basketball program from 2001-2006. In that span, he led the Owls to 63 wins. During the 2004-2005 season, the Owls had one of their best seasons in program history when they went 21-8 overall and won the Western State Conference South Division championship.

It's the only WSC title in program history, and is just the second overall (Citrus won the 1990 Foothill Conference Championship). For his efforts, Guttman was named the Western State Conference South Division Coach of the Year.

The successful season didn't end there for Citrus, as they were awarded the #10 seed in the 2005 California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Playoffs. The Owls would go on to upset #7 Chaffey College in the first round before falling to SoCal #2 seed Riverside City College in the regional semi-finals.

Dr. Guttman's tenure at Citrus College began in 1991. In his 29 years with Citrus College he was involved across campus in a number of different capacities, including serving on the Citrus College Faculty Association and the Citrus College Honors Society. Dr. Guttman was named a Citrus College Outstanding Faculty Award honoree on three separate occasions, and was the Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) Faculty Award winner four times. Fittingly, Dr. Guttman was recently named the CItrus College 2020 Distinguished Faculty Award recipient.
