Citrus College put together a strong third quarter to attempt a comeback but couldn't overcome LA Valley Monday night. The Owls fell 66-53 to slip to 9-7 on the year, 0-2 in Western State Conference action, while the Monarchs improve to 7-7 overall and 2-1 in conference.
Katherine Goostrey led the Owls with 20 points (7-for-13), while Giselle Garcia-Nunez finished with a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Citrus won the glass, outrebounding LA Valley 40-30 with two Owls just on the cusp of double-digit rebounds. Felicity Mendoza and Julie Garcia Man each grabbed eight rebounds for the Owls, while Goostrey snagged seven boards.
The Owls found themselves trailing 47-22 at halftime but came out swinging in the third. Citrus outscored LA Valley 20-7 in the frame, but still found itself trailing by double-digits and couldn't chip away at the deficit to fall 66-53.
Citrus looks to shake off a string of losses as it returns home to host College of the Canyons on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
