Citrus College dug itself out of a deep hole to trail by two at halftime but couldn't complete the comeback, falling 58-52 to Antelope Valley College.

The Owls move to 9-9 overall, 0-4 in the Western State Conference. The Marauders improve to 8-10 on the year and 1-3 in conference.

Katherine Goostrey led the Owls with 29 points and grabbing seven rebounds, while Reanne Reola also scored in double figures with 12 points.

After trailing by 14 after the first quarter, Citrus opened the second on a 17-0 run to take a three-point lead, 25-22. The Marauders cut the bleeding, however, and held a 27-25 upper hand at the break.

AVC tried to create some distance, going up by 10 points with less than two and a half minutes left on the clock, but Citrus kept battling.

With just about a minute left in the contest, Goostrey made it a four-point game, 52-48, but it was the closest the Marauders would let the Owls as they secured the 58-52 victory.

The Owls have a busy week, hosting three games in six days. Citrus takes on Bakersfield College first on Monday, tipping off at 7:00 p.m.
