Citrus College began Western State Conference action Wednesday with a 79-69 win over Bakersfield College.
The Owls improve to 11-4 overall and 1-0 in conference, while the Renegades drop to 4-7 on the year, 0-1 in WSC play.
Jolleen Olia led the Owls with 24 points (10-for-23) and seven rebounds, while Liz Camargo added 20 points (8-for-13). Sammy Martinez grabbed 15 rebounds and dished out five assists.
After finding itself trailing by two points in the first quarter, Citrus exploded in the second and outscored Bakersfield 27-to-15. It put the Owls up by 10 at halftime, 41-31.
The Renegades tried to battle back, but Citrus held onto its lead and sealed the 79-69 victory to start conference action on a high note.
Citrus looks to keep rolling as it heads to Santa Monica College on Saturday for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
