The Citrus College Women's Basketball team defeated College of the Canyons 75-54 last night to grab their second conference win of the season.
Citrus College moves to 11-6 overall and 2-1 in conference games, while College of the Canyons goes to 4-13 overall and 0-3 in conference.
The Owls outscored their opponent in all four quarters, only allowing the Cougars to shoot 33.9% from the field. Citrus College outscored College of the Canyons in second chance points (12-5), points in the paint (24-8), fastbreak points (10-0) and most notably bench points (38-3). The Owls defense forced 12 turnovers while they also outrebounded the Cougars 47-30. With the Owls' largest lead being 23 towards the end of the third quarter, they never allowed Canyons the opportunity of a comeback in the second half.
Citrus College was led in scoring by Kristin Morella who had 22 points off the bench and added two steals and one assist. Jolleen Olia scored 12 points with four assists, three rebounds and one steal. Samantha Martinez had 11 points, seven rebounds, a season-high four blocks and one steal. Maileeh Suasti led the Owls in rebounds with 12 and assists with six. Deija Mitchell scored 10 points off the bench and added eight rebounds and four assists.
Citrus College will travel to Santa Monica College on Saturday, January 18th for their fourth conference game of the season, tip-off is at 1 p.m.
