Owls Take Vaqueros to OT

Citrus College Women's Basketball traveled to Glendale College last night, losing 57-55 in overtime to the Vaqueros who remain undefeated in conference. 

Citrus College moves to 13-9 overall on the season while Glendale College improves to 17-3 overall on the year and 7-0 in conference games. 

The Owls battled the Vaqueros but found themselves down 24-18 at halftime. In the third quarter Glendale College outscored Citrus College 15-9 giving the Vaqueros a 12-point lead going into the fourth quarter. The Owls came back in the fourth quarter, outscoring Glendale College 20-8. A Kristin Morella jump shot tied the game 47-47 with eight seconds remaining in the game, forcing overtime. 

Citrus and Glendale traded three-pointers to begin overtime, and after both teams battled, the Owls had the last possession of the game down 55-57, and Owls could not steal the win with a last second three-point attempt. Although the Owls did not get the result they hoped for, they fought hard, taking No. 5 ranked Glendale College to an overtime thriller. 

Citrus College was led by Jolleen Olia who scored 12 points on 4-of-9 from the field, adding four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Breanna Escobedo scored 11 points with three rebounds, two steals and two assists. Leilani Argueta added 10 points, eight rebounds and one seal. Samantha Martinez led the Owls in rebounds with 12 and assists with five, adding nine points. Kristin Morella dropped 10 points off the bench with two rebounds, two assists and one block. 

The owls will travel to LA Valley College this Saturday, January 1st for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Monarchs.
