Bakersfield, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Golf team's 2012 season came to a close on Sunday and Monday at the 2012 Western State Conference Championships. The women finished fifth out of the fifth competing teams, and freshman Kandace Delgado finished one stroke out of qualifying for the Southern California Championships.

Delgado continued to do what she did all season long in lead the Owls over the past two days. Delgado opened up the tournament by shooting a 91 at Sundale Country Club in Bakersfield. The round was good enough to tie her for 12th overall on the day and put her in contention for a shot at the SoCals.

Sophomore Melissa Salas finished behind Delgado on day one with a 101, while sophomore Berenice Yang Gonzalez shot a 107. Freshman Marisa Piceno rounded out the scoring on Sunday with a 116.

On Monday, Delgado kept it going shooting another 91 this time at Kern River Golf Course. It was the 14th best round of the day, but kept her out of the overall Top 10 by just a couple of strokes, and exactly one stroke away from qualifying for the Southern California Championships.

Salas saved her best round of the year for last as she fired a 93. Yang Gonzalez shot a 110, while Piceno again rounded out the scoring with a 125. As a team, Citrus shot a 415 on day one and 419 on day two. The total left the Owls in the fifth place for a weekend tournament score of 834.
