Owls Impress in First Tournament of the Season

Palm Springs, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Golf team got off to a strong start over the weekend as they had their strongest team showing in quite some time. The Owls impressed with a 6th place finish out of 13 competing teams, and had two individuals place in the Top 25.

Sophomore Kandace Delgado, the Owls' top golfer in 2012, picked up right where she left off last year, carding an impressive 75 in the opening round. Freshman Paramee Suwantanma nipped on her heals with a 76. Sophomore's Deondra Alcantara and Kristen Masters rounding out the day one scoring with rounds of 94 and 99 for a team total of 344 on the first day.

On the second day, Delgado and Suwantanma fell off a bit with rounds of 82 and 85, but Alcantara and Masters had huge rounds with personal best marks of 88 and 87, as they helped Citrus to a team round of 342. Their two day combined team total of 686, was eight strokes better than seventh place Sacramento City College, helping the Owls place in the top half of the competition.

Individually it was Delgado who led the way with a two day total of 157. Her 157 placed her 16th overall. Suwantanma meanwhile finished with a 161, just mere strokes away from a Top 20 finish.

The Owls will be back out on the course this coming weekend for another tournament. This time Citrus will take part in the South Coast Tournament, in Ventura, CA. Round one is set for Sunday September 8th at Buena Ventura Golf Course with a 10:00 AM start time, while round two will take place on Monday September 9th at Olivas Links Golf Course with tee time also set for 10:00 AM.
