Ventura, CA -- After a strong start at the Desert Classic Tournament last weekend, the Citrus College Women's Golf team got some mixed results at the South Coast Tournament on Sunday and Monday. After a good day one, the Owls didn't post such a great round on day two as they finished 8th out of the 9 scoring teams.

Citrus started the tournament at Buenva Ventura Golf Course and posted a promising 343 on the first day. Freshman Paramee Suwantanma and sophomore Deondra Alcontara led the charge with a pair of 83's. Sophomore Kandace Delgado wasn't far behind those two with a 86. Sophomore Marisa Piceno was the fourth and final scoring round on Sunday with a respectable 91.

On day two, things got tougher for the Owls at Olivas Links Golf Course. Suwantanma was the only Owl to improve her previous days round with an 81 on Monday. Delgado and Alcontara would post the next two lowest rounds with a 90 and a 96 respectively. Sophomore Kristen Masters would edge Piceno by one stroke for the final scoring round, carding a 107 on the second 18 of the two day event.

Day two was also equally important because it also served as the official Western State Conference opener. Among its WSC peers, Citrus finished third with a day two total of 375 a handful of strokes behind second place College of the Canyons, whom the Owls actually led after the first day by three strokes.

Individually Suwantanma had the best two rounds. Suwantanma finished 17th overall in the overall competition, and tied for the third best individual round during the second day WSC portion of the event.

The Owls will get back out on the links next Monday in the second WSC event of the year, hosted by College of the Canyons. Tee-time is set for 11:00 AM at Simi Hills Golf Course.
