Palm Springs, CA — Citrus College freshman Lexandra So started off her collegiate career in just about the most impressive fashion possible. So, won the 2014 Desert Classic Invitational which featured 11 teams and 59 total golfers with a two round total of 145.
So, got off to a steady start during round one, firing a one over par 73. On the second day, So backed up her first round effort with an even par 72. Not to be out shadowed by her teammate, fellow frosh Jamie Lopez was also impressive in her college debut. Lopez shot a 79 during the first round, and came back on day two and matched So's 72 for a two round total of 151 and a 8th place overall finish for her self.
Sophomore Katherine De La Torre posted scoring rounds for the Owls on both days, shooting a 91 on day one and a 100 on day two. Freshman Sara Asencio provided fourth scoring round of day one with a 101, while Brittany Thelen posted the final scoring round of day two with a 100.
As a team, Citrus shot a 344 on both day one and day two, for a total of 688. Citrus finished 9th out of the 11 competing teams, but was just eight strokes shy of last year's WSC and CCCAA State Champion Santa Barbara City College, who finished tied for 6th with a 680.
The Owls will be right back out on the links this coming weekend when they take part in the South Coast Tournament in Ventura, CA. The first day will pit the Owls against some of the tops teams in Southern California, while day number two will also serve as the first official WSC Match of the year.
